Ли Хэй ответил: “Единое-это корень Дао; как могло случиться, что оно не растет? … то, что он потерял (?), никто не мог сохранить.
Для объяснения Единого исследуйте Небо и Землю; для принципа Единого примените его ко всем в пределах Четырех Морей 34.*
“Как можно узнать начало бесконечного отрезка струны и конечную точку между дальним и ближним? Теперь это только Тот, кто используется для ускорения трансформации, и, с помощью немногих, используется для познания многих.
“Теперь, если вы внимательно посмотрите на Четыре Моря до самого дальнего предела Вверх и Вниз, и на Четыре Направления, которые охватывают друг друга, вы увидите, что каждое использует свое собственное Дао.
“Теперь у ста слов есть основа, у тысячи слов есть их основы, и у десяти тысяч [слов] есть их обобщения.350 Множество мириадов явлений все проходят через одно отверстие.351
“Теперь, если бы он не был Исправленным Человеком, кто мог бы управлять ими?
Ибо тогда он способен ухватиться за исправление, чтобы исправить неправильное, ухватиться за Одно и использовать его для познания многих; изгнать то, что вредно для людей, и поддержать то, что им подходит.
В общей совокупности он сохраняет Единое и имеет те же цели, что Небо и Земля: тогда он может знать бедствия и блага Неба и Земли.”
The Yellow Emperor asked Li Hei, “It is only I, the One Man, who controls the world, but cunning people are beginning to grow in numbers, and crafty debaters are employing wisdom, and they cannot be blocked by the laws (?).339 I am afraid that someone will use them to disorder the world. Please may I ask whether the world has complete laws that can be used to correct the people?”
Li Hei said, “Yes. In ancient times, when the Heaven and Earth were completed, then the names were correct, the forms were harmonized . . . was used to preserve the name of the One. Above, it was linked with (?)*” Heaven; below, it was applied to all within the Four Seas. I have heard about the complete laws of the world. Therefore it is said, ‘Speak not about the many but about the One and then stop. Follow names and go back to the One, and the people will not disorder341 the rules.’ ”
The Yellow Emperor said, “Please may I ask, can the world still possess the One?”
Li Hei said, “In ancient times, august Heaven caused the phoenix- wind342 to descend and say one word and then stop. The Five Emperors used it to split apart343 Heaven and Earth; [used it] to administer all within the Four Seas; used it to cherish the people below; and used it to correct the officers of their generation.
“Now, for this reason, slanderers all withdrew and worthy men rose up all together, the Five Evils344 then fled, and the cunning debaters then stopped. They followed the names and went back to the One and the people did not disorder the rules.”345
The Yellow Emperor said, “Is the One just one and that’s all, or does it also grow?”
Li Hei answered, “The One is the root of the Dao; how could it be that it would not grow? . . . what it lost (?), no one could preserve the One. For the explanation of the One, examine into Heaven and Earth; for the principle of the One, apply it to all within the Four Seas.34*
“How can one know the beginning of an endless piece of string347 and the end point between far and near? Now it is only the One that is used to hasten348 transformation, and, by means of a few, is used to know the many.
“Now if you look thoroughly at the Four Seas to the farthest limit of Up and Down, and to the Four Directions that embrace each other,349 you will see that each uses its own Dao.
“Now a hundred words have a basis, a thousand words have their essentials, and ten thousand [words] have their generalities.350The multitude of the myriad phenomena all pass through a single hole.351
“Now if he were not a Corrected Person, who could control them?352 He must be a Corrected Person! For then he is able to grasp hold of correction to correct the incorrect, to lay hold of the One and use it to know the many; to expel what is harmful to the people and support what is appropriate for them. In the total collectivity,353 he preserves the One and possesses the same ends as Heaven and Earth: then he can know the calamities and good fortune of Heaven and Earth.”
