Соедините … постоянство, и по этой причине есть тьма и свет, есть Инь и Ян.
“Теперь у Земли есть горы и есть болота; у нее есть черное и белое; у нее есть красота и уродство. Земля делает изобилие274 своей мощью275 и тем самым покоится, а Небо исправляет имена и тем самым действует. Покой и активность питают друг друга; добродетель и тирания дополняют друг друга. Если они оба имеют имя и разделяют друг друга, то они полны. Когда Инь и Ян готовы, вещи трансформируются, изменяются, а затем рождаются.
“Если есть … тяжелое, но когда сто человек берут на себя ответственность за что-то, то это легко.276 У людей есть свои таланты,277 у вещей есть свои формы. Положитесь на них, и вы сможете их выполнить.”
Желтый Император сказал: “Теперь люди рождаются лицом к Небу и ждут, пока Земля произведет пищу, прежде чем они будут есть. Они считают Небо своим отцом, а Землю-матерью.278 Теперь я хочу воспитывать и исправлять их, уравновешивать и умиротворять их; с кого же мне начать?”
Он ответил: “Если ты бережлив, ты сможешь умиротворить; если ты заслуживаешь доверия … м [благородный] и низменный должен быть проверен280; богатые и бедные должны иметь свои чины. Старшее поколение должно рассматриваться как образец; молодое поколение должно быть отрезано (?).28″ Начните с Го Туна.”
Тогда Го Тун надел грубую одежду и наклонился, неся на спине бутылку.282 Он устроил путешествие по нищенству283, пройдя через все штаты, чтобы продемонстрировать крайнюю нищету и подлость.
The Yellow Emperor [asked his Four]271 Assistants, saying, “It is only I, the one man, who possess the world. Now I wish to educate and correct it, to balance and pacify it: how should I proceed?”
Guo Tong replied, “If you are not thrifty,272 you cannot pacify it; if you are not trustworthy, you cannot correct it. Regard Heaven above and look at Earth below, and investigate men and women.273 Now Heaven possesses a [permanent] core, and Earth possesses a permanent constancy. Combine . . . constancy and for this reason there is darkness and light and there is Yin and Yang.
“Now Earth possesses mountains and possesses marshes; it has black and white; it has beauty and ugliness. Earth makes abundant274 its potency275 and thereby is quiescent, and Heaven corrects names and thereby is active. Quiescence and activity nourish each other; virtue and tyranny complete each other. If they both possess a name and share each other, then they are complete. When Yin and Yang are ready, things transform, change, and then are born.
“If there is. . . heavy, but when a hundred people assume responsibility for something, then it is light.276 Men have their talents,277 things have their forms. Rely on them and you can complete them.”
The Yellow Emperor said, “Now the people are born facing Heaven, and wait for Earth to produce food before they eat. They consider Heaven to be their father and Earth their mother.278 Now I wish to educate and correct them, to balance and pacify them; with whom should I start?”
He replied, “If you are thrifty, you will be able to pacify; if you are trustworthy. . .m [noble] and base must be examined280; rich and poor are to have their ranks. The older generation should be treated as a model; the younger generation should be cut off (?).28‘ Begin with Guo Tong.”
Guo Tong thereupon put on coarse clothing and bent over carrying a bottle on his back.282 He arranged to travel283 about begging, going through all the states in order to demonstrate extreme poverty and meanness.
